A Mothers Love

As we have been preparing to send Garrett off to Ghana I have reflected over the many memories that are contained in his 18 years of life. There are so many great times we've had and things that have prepared him spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally for this next phase of his life. So often we get distracted in our hurried and busy lives but for a mother sending off her child it's almost like time stands still for brief moment and suddenly she realizes the depth of her love for that child.

This photo (captured by Chad) means the world to me. Look at that gigantic smile and happy countenance on my boy! That tells me that he is truly ready to go! He's confident, faithful, trusting and at peace with himself and his decision to serve the Lord. I feel incredibly blessed to be his mother. I love and miss my babies but I'm pretty sure my adult children are going to be A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!

It's heart wrenching saying that temporary farewell but I like to think of it as a tithe to the Lord. He gives us these precious children for ~20 years to love and to serve and then in return we get to give them back to Him for 2 years=10%! And just like tithing, the windows of heaven are open and we at home are blessed as is the missionary. It's an amazing time in our lives right now, perhaps the greatest crescendo in our family symphony! I've learned that the old saying is true..."A mother holds her children's hands for awhile but their hearts forever!" My heart is full today as I watch my son leave to serve the Lord.
